Esports concludes spring preseason and adds two teams

By Carl Zappa III

PITTSBURGH --- The Carlow University Rocket League Gold team closed out preseason play with a record of 2-1. The Celtics swept the both the St. Vincent Bearcats and Carleton University Ravens of Ontario, 3-0. Carlow Gold also played Ontario Tech University but dropped that preseason exhibition match, 3-0.

Rocket League welcomed three players this semester: Zachary Taylor (FR, also a member of the men's volleyball team), Angelo Fernandez (FR), and Francis Bochicchio (SO, also a member of the men's soccer team). As a result, Carlow will field two Rocket League teams in the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) this semester, Carlow Gold and Carlow Purple. Each team consists of four players and will compete in separate tiers and conferences on Friday nights beginning Feb. 9.

Carlow will also debut a League of Legends team, comprised of six players, in the NECC spring season. This expansion triples the number of teams in conference play for esports. Senior Elizabeth Knight will pull double duty for the Celtics competing in Rocket League as well as League of Legends. League of Legends matches take place on Wednesday nights and begin Feb. 14.
