Rocket League Gold defeats Ohio Wesleyan, Purple falls to Saint Vincent

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University Rocket League Purple and Gold faced off against Saint Vincent College and Ohio Wesleyan University Friday night.

Carlow Purple (1-4) vs. Saint Vincent (2-4)

Game 1

Elizabeth Knight registered a shot almost immediately for the Celtics, but Saint Vincent was able to defend.

The Bearcats opened the scoring at 4:00 with an alley-oop aerial goal.

Two quick goals at 3:12 and 2:55 by Saint Vincent took them up 3-0, and the Bearcats scored twice more at 1:58 and 1:09 to make the final score 5-0.

Game 2

The first goal of the game came at 3:37 on a Saint Vincent laser to make the score 1-0.

Carlow benefited from an amazing save by AJ Nguyen at 3:16 to prevent the Celtics from going down by two.

It took until 1:07 left for Saint Vincent to find the net again and increase their lead to 2-0.

The Bearcats scored again with 44 seconds remaining to extend their lead to 3-0.

Game 3

Nguyen opened with a nice aerial shot and Alena Hemminger knocked home the rebound to take the Celtics up 1-0 at 4:45.

Saint Vincent responded at 4:12 to tie the game, 1-1.

The Bearcats put two quick ones in at 3:38 and 3:26 to go up 3-1.

Knight was able to cut the lead by one with a goal at 1:45, but the Bearcats responded immediately making the score 4-2.

Saint Vincent extended their lead to 6-2 with goals at 1:22 and 0:57.

Carlow Gold (1-4) vs. Ohio Wesleyan University (5-1)

Game 1

Brady Fest opened the scoring at 4:28 and gave Carlow an early lead in game one.

Angelo Fernandez doubled the Celtic lead by slotting a goal at 3:46, making it 2-0.

Carlow took the lead to 3-0 with another goal by Fest on a Fernandez assist at 1:50.

The Battling Bishops responded with a late goal at 0:21 to make the score 3-1 in favor of Carlow; however, the Celtics defended the lead and took game one, 3-1.

Game 2

Ohio Wesleyan pressed early and forced a goal at 4:38 after some heavy bumping in front of the net.

Carlow's response came in the form of a Zachary Taylor goal at 2:38 to draw even at 1-1.

Taylor scored again by slamming home a centering ball from Fest and extending the Carlow lead to 2-1 with 0:28 remaining.

2-1 was the final score of game two as Carlow once again defended the late lead.

Game 3

Fernandez was able to capitalize on a Taylor pass at 4:15 to register the first goal and give Carlow a 1-0 lead.

Fest extended that lead to 2-0 when he knocked home a sitter on a Fernandez center.

At 3:36 Fernandez kept the pressure and took Carlow up 3-1, but it was Ohio Wesleyan who responded immediately at 3:29 to cut the lead to 3-1.

Carlow went up 4-1 on another Fernandez goal assisted by Taylor, although Fernandez appeared to steal the ball from Taylor to complete the hat trick.

The Battling Bishops responded at 2:21 to make it 4-2 in favor of Carlow.

Fernandez and Taylor combined for three goals around the minute mark to make it 7-2 as Carlow closed out the sweep over Ohio Wesleyan.
