Carlow Black remains undefeated in Overwatch2 with sweep of CCAC

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University Black defeated the Community College of Allegheny County Gray, 3-0, in Overwatch2 Feb. 21.

Game 1 - Antarctic Peninsula (Control)
Result: W, Carlow University Black

Carlow opened strong on Antarctic Peninsula, securing a 2-0 win across the two maps, Labs and Icebreaker.

Map 1: Labs

Carlow came out firing, immediately securing control and holding the point to 99 percent before CCAC managed to flip the fight. However, CCAC's hold was short-lived, only reaching 35 percent before a well-executed triple-ultimate play from Tay Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle HS /), Alena Hemminger (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex HS) and Hason Chan (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville HS/SUNY Old Westbury) shut down their defense. This dominant teamfight win allowed Carlow to retake the point and close out Map 1.

Map 2: Icebreaker

Carlow secured the point first, reaching 45 percent before CCAC found an opening and flipped control. The match became a tight back-and-forth fight, with CCAC climbing to 44 percent, nearly tying the percentage. However, Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann Regional Academy) stepped up, setting up a well-timed Cassidy Deadeye ultimate, turning the tide in Carlow's favor. With this momentum shift, Carlow held strong, maintained control and closed out the map to secure Game 1.

With a strong team performance and well-executed ultimate coordination, Carlow University Black secured Game 1 in dominant fashion and took an early 1-0 series lead over CCAC Gray.

Game 2 - Circuit Royal (Escort)
Result: W, Carlow University Black

Carlow dominated on Circuit Royal, securing a convincing victory with ardent team coordination and resilience.

Attack Phase: Carlow Blitzes Through

Carlow pushed the payload with almost no resistance, sweeping through all three checkpoints at a blistering pace. They reached the final checkpoint with an incredible 4:16 remaining, demonstrating strong ultimate economy and coordinated team fights.

Defense Phase: Early Stalls & a Last-Second Denial

On defense, Fernandez (Pharah) and Lily Ibanez (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill HS) ran a strong Pharmercy combo, shutting down CCAC's push in the first few minutes. Eventually, CCAC took down the Pharah, which led to a momentum shift, allowing them to gain ground. However, Chan (Bastion) responded with multiple eliminations, including a devastating Artillery Mode ultimate, slowing CCAC's progress.

CCAC rallied for one last push and was just 3.28 meters away from capturing the first point when Johnson (Junker Queen) made a clutch contest. Carlow then held firm, rebuffing CCAC's final attempt to secure the map and the match victory.

Carlow's entire team had only eight deaths, highlighting the exceptional healing from Ibanez (Mercy) and Hemminger, the latter going deathless throughout the map.

Map 3: New Queen Street (Push)

Carlow came out strong, shutting out CCAC and never relinquishing control of the robot. A full team kill just 40 seconds into the match set the tone, and Carlow maintained relentless pressure throughout. While Push maps have a ten-minute time limit, Carlow needed only 2:31 to push the payload the entire way to CCAC's base. The team only lost one member during the entire map, highlighting their exceptional coordination.
