Fifteen three-pointers not enough to lift Men's Basketball to victory over Mount Aloysius

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's basketball drained 15 three-pointers, but it was not enough to lift them to victory in an 87-74 loss to Mount Aloysius College Wednesday night at Donahue Pavilion.

Brevan Williams poured in a double-double effort, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc to lead the Celtics with 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Nehemiah Brazil was a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line with 13 points, while Riley Comforti and Isaiah Stein each contributed 10.

Brazil dished out six assists, Comforti picked up four steals and Griffin Ruhlman contributed three treys.

The Mounties (1-0) started out with the lead, but a dunk from Stein tied it up, 6-6, early on.

Mount Aloysius once again gained the advantage, but the Celtics (1-4) took over after back-to-back threes from Williams and Ruhlman.

The Mounties went on a 10-0 run to regain a lead they would carry through the remainder of the half, tallying 10 straight points to close the half ahead, 42-30.

Carlow scored nine of its 15 three-pointers in the second half, but the Mounties maintained a double-digit lead through the entire half.

The Mounties' Jason Coronado led all scorers with 27 points and DeVon Haggans pulled down 11 boards off the bench.

Carlow out-rebounded Mount Aloysius, 49-45, and scored 37 points off the bench.

The Mounties shot 50 percent (34 for 68) from the field compared to Carlow's 32.5 percent (26 for 80) and forced 21 Carlow turnovers on the night.

The Celtics return to action Nov. 12 with a 7 p.m. game at St. Vincent College.
