BOONE, N.C. --- Carlow University men's basketball traveled down to North Carolina to square off against NCAA DI Appalachian State University Tuesday night.

The Celtics (1-13) came up short against the Mountaineers (6-4), 103-43, in front of a crowd of 1,622 at the Holmes Convocation Center. The game also aired on ESPN+.

App State jumped out to a 14-0 lead to begin the game, broken up by Nehemiah Brazil with two made free throws at the 15-minute mark.

The Mountaineers went on a 12-0 run to end the half ahead, 51-24, and carried the run over after halftime, going on a 10-0 run to start the second half.

A 16-0 run toward the end of the game pushed App State's lead to 66 points, but Carlow strung together the final few baskets of the game.

The Celtics traveled without several players, including leading scorer Riley Comforti; but despite the challenges, there were a few bright spots to the night.

Byron Gaskins went 4 for 4 from the foul line and scored a season-high 11 points off the bench.

Brazil went 4 for 7 from the line, dished out three assists and scored 13 points to lead the Celtics.

Carlow shot 76.9 percent (10 for 13) from the line on the night, but just 29.4 percent (15 for 51) from the field against a defense that didn't allow the Celtics to score much inside the paint.

The Mountaineers sank 13 three-pointers and shot 56 percent (42 for 75) from the field on the night.

Carlow continues its NCAA DI road trip with a stop at Virginia Military Institute tonight for a 7 p.m. game that will also air on ESPN+.
