Bio

Tim Keefer, a strong and seasoned leader with more than 30 years of experience coaching in and around the Pittsburgh area, serves as the head coach for Carlow University’s men’s basketball team.

Keefer earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education and began his career as a coach and educator at Boggs Avenue Elementary School in 1983.

His expertise grew to include key postings throughout the Pittsburgh Public School System and Western Pennsylvania, including stints at Hempfield Area High School and Allegheny Middle School, and two decades coaching at Oliver High School, where he also served as athletic director from 2009-12.

Keefer has also contributed to the success of students and athletics programs at the college level. He helped transform the men’s basketball team at Pennsylvania State University Greater Allegheny from a two-year program to a four-year program, and under his leadership the Greater Allegheny Nittany Lions won the PSUAC basketball championship in 2006.

His volunteer coaching activities include a recent stint as assistant men’s basketball coach at Seton Hill University. For more than two decades, Keefer contributed his expertise to summer training camps around the Pittsburgh region, including work with ProCamps (at the Mike Tomlin Camp and the Ben Roethlisberger Camp), the Urban Impact Youth Football Camp, and the National Youth Sports Program at Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Keefer’s ability to mentor and train players at both the high school and college levels made him uniquely qualified to bring Carlow’s men’s basketball program out of club and into intercollegiate play.

As a coach, Keefer believes in the value of training across multiple sports. His expertise ranges from coaching golf to football to tennis and everything in between—including many years spent coaching men’s and women’s basketball.

Keefer follows the guiding principal that academics should always come first for his players. His commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of talented, engaged student-athletes will be an asset to Carlow University for years to come.
