Point Park holds Men's Soccer scoreless in conference opener

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer lost its River States Conference opener, 8-0, to Point Park University Thursday at Highmark Stadium.

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer lost its River States Conference opener, 8-0, to Point Park University Thursday at Highmark Stadium.

The Pioneers (2-6, 1-0 RSC) out-shot the Celtics, 35-3 (18-1 on goal) on the night. All three of Carlow's shots came in the first half, and Point Park tallied nine corner kicks while the Celtics were not afforded any.

The Pioneers scored their first goal of the night less than 10 minutes into the game. Point Park tallied two more goals at 24' and 26' to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Although Carlow held Point Park scoreless through 32 minutes, the Pioneers continued the onslaught into the second half.

Point Park scored three goals back-to-back-to back at 58', 59' and 60' to put them ahead, 6-0.

The Pioneers' final two goals came late in the game at 81' and off a corner kick in the 89th minute.

Kevin Garcia made 10 stops in the complete game effort, and Shajit Pokwal put the only shot on goal for the Celtics.

Carlow hosts Pitt Greensburg Sunday, Sept. 25 for a 4 p.m. match at Highmark Stadium.
