Ramson hat trick lifts Men's Soccer to first conference victory on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH --- Janvier Ramson scored a hat trick to give Carlow University men's soccer its first River States Conference victory since 2018 on Senior Day at Highmark Stadium Saturday.

PITTSBURGH --- Janvier Ramson scored a hat trick to give Carlow University men's soccer its first River States Conference victory since 2018 on Senior Day at Highmark Stadium Saturday.

The Celtics (2-9-1, 1-3 RSC) defeated Midway (Ky.) University, 3-2.

Carlow's last conference win also happened to be against the Eagles (0-11, 0-5 RSC) – a 1-0 victory at Ambrose Urbanic Field Oct. 20, 2018.

Ramson scored his game-winner from midfield on a kickoff just seconds after Midway's tying goal. The referee blew the whistle and Ramson fired away, finding the keeper too far out of position and sailing it over his head to score.

It was not the first time Ramson pulled off this shot – he scored Carlow's lone goal in the same fashion in a loss to Oakland City (Ind.) University at Montour Junction last season.

The lead up:

The Eagles struck first in the 15th minute. Ramson and Sudesh Tiwari had two good chances in the 28th minute but neither landed.

Midway gave up the ball on Carlow's end, and Ian Wohlfarth turned and passed it in stride to Ramson, who tied the score, 1-1, in the 40th minute.

Out of the gates after halftime, Ramson hit the right post on a breakaway at 48'. His second goal of the game was not until the 73rd minute, when a rebound from Tiwari's shot landed at his feet. The kick wasn't clean, but it was enough for the ball to make it past the goal line and give Carlow a 2-1 advantage.

Kevin Garcia came up with a huge stop on a free kick at 76', but the game was far from over.

A questionable call in the box set Midway up for a penalty kick. Jacob Smith tied the game, 2-all, with a shot to the lower left past Garcia.

Just seconds later as the teams set up for kickoff after the goal is when Ramson struck.

Ramson and Tiwari recorded 16 of Carlow's 20 shots on the day, and goalkeeper Garcia made nine saves in the complete game effort.

Midway out-shot Carlow, 29-20, and held a 12-4 corner kick advantage.

Prior to kickoff, the Celtics celebrated four seniors: Kevin Garcia, Janvier Ramson, Nick Sinni and Sudesh Tiwari.

Ramson leads the conference with 13 goals, 57 shots and 26 points.

Carlow travels to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Oct. 13 for a 2 p.m. RSC game.
