GREENVILLE, Pa. --- Carlow University men's soccer opened the 2024 season with a 4-0 loss to Thiel College on the road Friday.
Gavin Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills HS) recorded Carlow's lone shot on goal in the 35th minute as the Tomcats' defense denied opportunities to score, holding the Celtics to just one corner kick in each half.
Alex Remington (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) suffered the loss in net after making five saves and allowing two goals in the first half. Newcomer Zac Kolich (Enon Valley, Pa./Blackhawk HS) made three saves and allowed two goals to close out the match.
Hunter Blatt and Andy Mangold led the Tomcats with one goal and one assist apiece.
Thiel struck its first blow in the fourth minute when Mangold connected with AJ Trobek. Blatt assisted Trey Grazier's goal in the 24th minute, but the Celtics prevented Thiel from scoring the remainder of the half.
Magold widened the scoring berth with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, and Blatt found his mark on a pass from Mitchell Strauss at 61'.
The Tomcats outshot the Celtics 22-1 (12-1 on goal) and tallied eight of their 10 corner kicks in the second half alone.
Carlow hosts Penn State Mont Alto for a 4 p.m. match at Highmark Stadium Wednesday.
