Men’s Soccer faces shutout against Waynesburg
PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men’s soccer faced an 8-0 shutout against Waynesburg University at Highmark Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer faced an 8-0 shutout against Waynesburg University at Highmark Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Celtics (2-3) saw a few decent chances toward the end of the first half. Logan Alexander (Manchester Twp., N.J./Manchester Township HS) hit the crossbar with a long shot at 41', and Gavin Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills HS) put a shot on goal at 42'. An own goal off a Waynesburg corner kick in the 37th minute saw Carlow trailing 5-0 at the half.
Both teams substituted goalkeepers in the second half, and Alex Remington (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) made a huge save on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
The Jackets (3-2) were afforded another penalty kick at 79' after a handball in the box and capitalized to extend their lead to 8-0.
The Celtics recorded several shots toward the end of the match with a good look from Sangay Gurung (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood HS) in 90th minute.
Remington and Zac Kolich (Enon Valley, Pa./Blackhawk HS/Pittsburgh Technical College) combined for 10 saves in net.
The Jackets outshot the Celtics 34-5 and held a 17-3 corner kick advantage.
Zachary Johnson scored a brace for the Jackets, and Seth Massotti assisted on three goals on the night. Matthew Serrano added a goal and two assists.
Carlow returns to action with a 6 p.m. game against Penn State Scranton at Cupples Stadium Sept. 21.
