Men's Track & Field starts off second half of indoor season strong

COLUMBUS, Ohio --- Carlow University men's track & field athletes broke two school records, tallied nine top-10 finishes and recorded several personal best times at the Capital University Comets Open Saturday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio --- Carlow University men's track & field athletes broke two school records, tallied nine top-10 finishes and recorded several personal best times at the Capital University Comets Open Saturday.

Six universities and several running clubs competed in the meet.

Newcomer Shajit Pokwal broke the school record in triple jump with a distance of 12.61 meters. Trent Owen set the original record Jan. 18, 2019 with a leap of 12.48 meters.

Pokwal earned second place in triple jump, followed by teammate Nate Thomas, who set a personal best and placed fourth with a distance of 11.97 meters.

The 4x200 relay team of Thomas, Quay Canton, Pokwal and Tyhir Royster set a school record time of 1:42.93 to place first in the event.

Royster earned third place in the 200 (23.02) and placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.13.

Canton placed fifth in the 200 (23.38) and 10th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a personal best time of 7.23.

Thomas came in fifth with a leap of 1.61 meters in high jump.

Jeb Jordan hit two personal best marks in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and the 800.

The Celtics return to action Friday, Jan. 20 for the Youngstown State University College Invitational.
