Men’s Volleyball opens season with loss to Bethany

Jaden Michalski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) led the Celtics with five kills and five digs, while Ryan Callahan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area HS) contributed two blocks and five assists in the effort.
The young Carlow squad faced a barrage of 25 aces and a Bisons team that hit .370 on the night.
Bethany hit .615 and defeated Carlow 25-4 in the first set.
The Celtics fared better in the second set, managing a 12-9 advantage before the Bison went on a 7-0 run to lead, 16-12. Several errors and a kill from Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) tied the game at 18-all, but Bethany strung together another 7-0 stretch to end the set with a 25-18 victory.
The Bison jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the third set enroute to a decisive 25-11 win and the sweep.
McKay Ginez led Bethany with five kills, and Logan Thomas contributed four digs. Rylan Trapp and Alexander Hall tallied five service aces each.
The Celtics travel to Geneva College for a rescheduled game Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
