Men’s Volleyball falls to Geneva in nonconference road game

The Golden Tornadoes (2-4) swept the Celtics (0-2), 25-12, 25-16 and 25-14.
Jaden Michalski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) led Carlow with six kills. Ryan Callahan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area HS) added nine assists and seven digs in the effort. Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) recorded the lone block in the match.
Geneva tallied 20 services aces on the night, led by Andrew Ubinger and Daniel Spear with six apiece. The Golden Tornadoes held the Celtics to single digit kills in each set.
Geneva went ahead 7-1 in the first set and strung together a 9-1 run to lead, 19-6, enroute to a 25-12 win.
Carlow took advantage of several attack errors in the second set and a kill from Luke Campana (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) to lead, 7-3. The Celtics maintained the lead, ahead 11-7, before a kill from Spear set off a 9-1 run that gave Geneva a 17-12 advantage. The Golden Tornadoes outscored Carlow 8-3 to win the second set, 25-16.
A Geneva service error saw the Celtics trailing 11-9 in the third set before a Carlow service error sent the Golden Tornadoes on a 6-1 run. The Celtics trailed by five toward the end of the set, but Geneva scored six unanswered points to win the final set, 25-14.
Ubinger led the Golden Tornadoes with a game-high 13 kills as Geneva hit .256 on the night. Sho Larrabee tallied 28 assists and nine digs.
The Celtics host Geneva for a 7 p.m. game Feb. 5.
