Men’s Volleyball opens AMCC action with loss at Mount Aloysius
CRESSON, Pa. --- After a 23-day hiatus, Carlow University men’s volleyball took to the court once again, opening Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 loss to Mount Aloysius College on the road Wednesday.

The Mounties (4-13, 1-1 AMCC) swept the Celtics (0-9, 0-1 AMCC), 25-9, 25-18 and 25-13.
Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) led Carlow with five kills, and Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann Regional Academy) picked up five digs in the effort. Ryan Callahan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area HS) contributed 10 assists and landed two of Carlow's three service aces on the night.
Mount Aloysius jumped out to an 11-0 start in the first set enroute to a decisive 25-9 win.
The Celtics fared better in the second set, going on a 5-1 run early to lead, 6-5. Both teams tied the score several times, with Carlow trailing 16-15 midway through the set. A kill set off a 7-1 run for the Mounties, affording them a 23-16 lead, allowing Mount Aloysius to end the second set with a 25-18 victory.
The Mounties hit .409 in the final set, getting out to a 9-2 advantage to start. A 6-2 run saw the Celtics trailing by three, but a late 9-2 run gave Mount Aloysius a 21-11 lead. Jaden Michalski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) landed a kill, and an error afforded the Celtics another point before two Carlow errors in a row handed the Mounties a 25-13 set win.
Mount Aloysius hit .259 on the night with 10 aces and 10 blocks. Andrew Wlodarczyk led the Mounties with a game-high 10 kills. Corey Obeldobel added seven digs, while Jason Freed and Connor O'Mealia tallied four aces apiece.
Carlow travels to SUNY Potsdam for a tri-match Friday and Saturday.
