Men’s Volleyball kicks off weekend trip to New York with loss to Houghton

The Celtics (0-15) fell to the Highlanders (2-18), 25-16, 25-12 and 25-14.
Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga. / North Paulding HS) led Carlow with three kills and two service aces, and Ryan Callahan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler Area HS) contributed three kills. Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa. / St. John Neumann Regional Academy) picked up six digs in the effort.
Houghton bookended the first set with a 6-1 run and a 6-2 run to win, 25-16.
The Celtics led 3-2 to start the second set, but the Highlanders quickly regained the lead. Ahead 9-6, Houghton went on a 12-1 run to lead, 21-7, enroute to a 25-12 victory.
Carlow tied the game three times in the beginning of the third set before a service error set off a 6-0 run for the Highlanders. A 6-1 run put them ahead by nine, and Houghton closed the set and the match, 25-14.
The Highlanders hit a season-high .361 in the match.
Devin Cline led Houghton with a game-high seven kills, while Jerry Buno added six digs and two aces.
The Celtics conclude the trip to Houghton with a tri-match tomorrow. A rematch with the host team begins at 10 a.m., and Carlow faces Penn State Behrend at noon.
