Men’s Volleyball unable to pull off third set comeback in loss to Penn State Behrend

The Celtics fell to 0-17 while the Lions improved to 10-14 overall, defeating Carlow 25-10, 25-11 and 25-19 in the sweep.
Errors plagued the Celtics, as Behrend held the team to just four kills on the night. David Valentino (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional HS) recorded six digs and tallied one of Carlow's two service aces in the effort.
The Celtics attempted a comeback late in the third set. Down to the match point, four Lions errors in a row punctuated by a kill from Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) saw the Celtics down six. Behrend ended the set and the game in the next rally with a kill.
Carlow kept it close to start the game, trailing by two early on before a 10-3 run put the Lions ahead 16-7. Two kills from Kyle Hoffman and a service ace ended the first set 25-10.
Three errors in a row handed Carlow a 3-1 advantage to start the second set, but the Lions quickly tied the game, and a 6-0 run put them ahead, 9-4. Ahead five, Luke Mumpower hit four service aces in a row before committing an error to hand the ball back to Carlow. It was enough to put the Lions up, 15-7. Two Carlow errors, two kills and an ace ended the second set, 25-11.
The Lions hit .220 on the night with 18 service aces. Joseph Sciscio and Eddie Cebula led Behrend with five kills apiece. Mumpower recorded five aces and Sciscio added two solo blocks.
The Celtics host Buffalo State College for a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday night.
