VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Carlow University men's cross country runner Saul Barrera placed eighth in the nation at the 2021 USCAA Championship Friday.

Barrera ran 29:20 to place eighth out of 84 runners and earned USCAA second team All-American honors as a result. The top 14 runners in the 8k race earned All-American.

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry claimed the team award, and SUNY-ESF senior Matt Frame won the individual title with a 26:57 finish.

Barrera traveled to Virginia Beach just one day prior to the event and walked the course the morning of the race. The last-minute effort to get him to the starting line was due in no small part to Director of Athletics, Lou Zadecky, and Carlow soccer head coach Allen Duda, who helped coordinate his arrival and transportation to the event.
