Men’s Cross Country competes in first race of the season

MEADVILLE, Pa. --- A group of men's cross country newcomers competed in the first race of the season at the Allegheny College Classic Saturday.

The Celtics team comprised of four rookie runners tackled the four-mile course in a 49-person field.

Oscar Contreras led Carlow with a time of 28:56 to land in 32nd place.

Isaiah Stein ran 29:44, Byron Gaskins finished in 31:56 and Gavin McLain crossed the line in 33:38.

Host Allegheny, Chatham University, Thiel College and Allegheny Alumni sent full teams to the meet, while La Roche, Penn State Fayette and Penn State DuBois all entered individuals into the event.

Allegheny's Colm Mulligan won the race with a time of 21:22, and Allegheny claimed nine of the top 10 spots to win the team title.

The Celtics return to action at the Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions Invitational Saturday, Sept. 23.
