Four Softball student-athletes named All-Americans, eight earn All-Academic honors

DUBOIS, Pa. --- Four Carlow University softball student-athletes earned USCAA All-American honors and eight were named to the All-Academic team, the association announced Sunday.

Junior catcher/shortstop McKenna Pierce earned Second Team All-American honors, while senior pitcher Clara Niglio, junior second baseman Francesca Beighley and senior outfielder Maddie Bowes earned Honorable Mention All-American.

Pierce ended the season leading the team with a .364 batting average and a .430 slugging percentage. She started every game for the Celtics, amassing 44 hits including 10 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 29 RBI.

Niglio was also named to the 2024 USCAA All-Tournament team, announced at the conclusion of the Championship Thursday. She led the Celtics in the circle this season, going 9-12 with a 3.84 ERA and 63 strikeouts over 116.2 innings. She also recorded Carlow's lone save on the year. At the plate, Niglio hit .294 with 40 hits including 11 doubles, a triple and was second on the team with 28 RBI. She struck out just eight times in 136 at-bats.

Beighley started every game for the Celtics at second base with a .957 fielding percentage and .329 batting average. She led the team with 46 hits, including seven doubles and seven RBI this year.

Bowes played in all but one game for the Celtics, hitting .273 with 30 hits that included four doubles, a home run and 19 RBI. Bowes and Jillian Durst led the team with 15 walks this season. Bowes struck out just seven times in 110 at-bats and was second on the team with a .971 fielding percentage.

The USCAA's National All-Academic Award recognizes all student-athletes (sophomores, juniors and seniors at four-year institutions and sophomores at two-year institutions) who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.00-point system) or greater.

Below are the Carlow athletes who made the All-Academic team:
