Softball shut out by Salem in home doubleheader

The Tigers (13-10) shut out the Celtics (4-12) in 10 innings and afforded Carlow just three hits on the night.
Game 1: L, 8-0 (5 inn.)
Salem pitcher Kendall Lemley tossed a two-hitter in the first game, and the Tigers tallied 12 hits in the run-rule win.
Salem struck early with a two-run home run over the left field fence off the bat of Jazmyn Moetului to clear the bases in the top of the first. Two doubles and two singles drove in two more runs for the Tigers before the Celtics picked up a ground out to end the inning.
Carlow retired Salem in order in the second. A double and back-to-back one-out singles in the third put another run on the board for the Tigers, and a two-out triple put Salem ahead 7-0.
Anna Schumacher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) and Haley Bicko (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown HS) each singled in the bottom half of the frame, but the Tigers left them stranded heading into the fourth.
Carlow left two Salem runners stranded in the fourth, but the Tigers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth. A walk and a ground out put a runner on second with two outs, and a single to center field brought in the final run for Salem.
Tatum Wiggs (Boron, Calif./Boron HS) suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs with one walk and one strikeout.
Moetului went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and two RBI, and three other Tigers hit 2 for 3 in the win.
Game 2: L, 11-0 (5 inn.)
Salem pitcher Franchesca Alvaro tossed a one-hitter, and the Tigers scored seven runs in the first inning enroute to another run-rule victory in the nightcap.
An error, a single and a walk loaded the bases for Salem, and two more walks scored two runs. A two-out single, a walk and a three-run double to right field brought in five unearned runs and gave Salem a 7-0 lead.
A single, a double and a ground out tacked on two more runs for the Tigers in the top of the second.
Schumacher retired Salem in order in the third, and Fran Beighley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum Senior HS) tallied Carlow's lone hit in the bottom half of the frame.
A walk, an error and a double brought in two more runs for Salem in the top of the fifth, and the Tigers put the game away to end the day.
Bicko suffered the loss after allowing one earned run on three hits with a walk to start the game.
Brooke Wise went 2 for 4 with two doubles and five RBI to lead the Tigers at the plate.
The Celtics travel to Thiel College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow.
