Women's Basketball forces 22 turnovers, still comes up short against WVU Tech on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball forced 22 WVU Tech turnovers but came up short in an 83-59 River States Conference contest at Donahue Pavilion Saturday.

The Celtics (5-18, 1-13 RSC) led, 11-7, almost three quarters of the way through the first half, but an and-one layup from the Golden Bears (16-9, 9-5 RSC) set off a 14-2 run in favor of the visitors.

Carlow scored all of its three-pointers in the second quarter and cut WVU Tech's lead to two, but the Golden Bears eventually headed into the locker room at halftime with an 11-point advantage.

WVU Tech held Carlow to 12 points and out-rebound the Celtics, 13-6, in the third quarter to push their lead to 20 points.

Carlow attempted to put together a run in the fourth, but the Golden Bears hit five treys to secure the win.

Sydney Carr led Carlow with 18 points, six assists and four steals on the day.

Emiley Hillgartner added 14 points, while Shaelyn Clark tallied 10 points, a season-high eight steals and four assists.

Megan Ost pulled down 16 boards in the effort.

Carlow scored 20 points off 22 WVU Tech turnovers, but the Golden Bears out-rebounded the Celtics, 60-38.

WVU Tech scored 19 points off the bench to Carlow's eight, and both teams tallied six blocks each on the day.

WVU Tech's Valiyah Yazzie hit four treys and scored a season-high 29 points to lead all scorers.

Alva Hedrich contributed a double-double 12 points and 12 rebounds, while two other Golden Bears tallied double figures.

The Celtics travel to Ohio Christian University for a 5:30 p.m. RSC game Feb. 7.
