Ten treys lift Women’s Basketball to victory over Hilbert

Emiley Hillgartner and Sydney Carr scored over half of Carlow's points on the day with 23 and 20, respectively. Each tallied four treys apiece to account for eight of the Celtics' 10.
Emma Aubrey scored the other two treys for Carlow, and Emari Stinnette added nine boards.
Carr had nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals and Hillgartner recorded six boards, two assists and two steals.
Carlow (2-4, 2-2 AMCC) started strong with an 11-1 run to begin the game. The Celtics prevented Hilbert (1-6, 1-3 AMCC) from scoring a basket until almost seven minutes into the quarter when the Hawks sank a three-pointer.
Carlow outscored the Hawks, 17-12, in the first quarter, but Hilbert rallied in the second. A free throw brought the Hawks to within a point of tying the game with two minutes left in the half, but a layup from Jada Bass gave Carlow some breathing room.
Hilbert trailed by two, but a last second layup gave the Celtics a four point advantage heading into halftime.
The Celtics saw another strong quarter in the third, outscoring the Hawks, 20-14. Carlow went on a 12-0 run to start the quarter before allowing Hilbert to score four minutes in. The Celtics led by 10 at the end of the third.
Hilbert bridged the gap to within four points in the fourth quarter, but Carlow pulled away and maintained its lead for the win.
The Celtics scored 19 points off 15 Hilbert turnovers and outscored the Hawks 22-14 in the paint.
Hilbert held a 51-42 edge in rebounding, and Carlow shot 45.5 percent (10 for 22) from beyond the arc.
The Celtics sent Hilbert to the line almost three times as often, where they shot 78.3 percent (18 for 23).
Kayla Johnson led the Hawks with 13 points, and two other Hilbert players scored double figures in the effort.
Carlow concludes its New York road trip with a noon game at Bryant & Stratton College Buffalo tomorrow.
