Second-chance points rob Women’s Basketball of nonconference win on the road

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Carlow University women's basketball lost an 84-69 contest to Bryant & Stratton College Buffalo to conclude its New York trip Sunday.

Emiley Hillgartner scored a career- and season-high 32 points to lead the Celtics, who fell to 2-5 on the season.

Sydney Carr added 20 points, five assists, five boards and four steals in the effort against the Bobcats, who improved to 5-4 on the year.

Carow struck first to start the game, but Buffalo quickly gained the advantage.

Emma Aubrey hit a three-pointer just over six minutes in to put Carlow ahead, 6-5. Shaelyn Clark sank two free throws to give the Celtics an 8-5 edge with 2:40 left in the first, but the Bobcats would not allow Carlow to score the remainder of the quarter.

Both teams scored 22 points in the second quarter, tying the game several times before the half.

The Celtics trailed, 22-21, for almost two minutes before Bryant & Stratton broke the stalemate with a layup four minutes remaining in the half.

Hillgartner hit two free throws to put Carlow within a point of tying the game again, but a last second layup from the Bobcats gave them a 33-30 advantage heading into halftime.

Emari Stinnette tied the game once again at 36-all with a layup two minutes into the third quarter, but a made free throw set off an 8-0 run for the Bobcats.

Trailing 51-43, the Celtics outscored Buffalo, 8-4, over the course of the next three minutes, eventually resulting in Carlow being down just four points heading into the fourth.

Despite Carlow's efforts, the Bobcats outscored the Celtics 27-16 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Buffalo outrebounded Carlow, 65-36, and outscored the Celtics 21-6 off the bench.

Carlow scored 18 points off 16 Bobcats' turnovers but allowed Buffalo 17 second-chance points.

Chy Isom scored a double-double 22 points and 17 boards to lead the Bobcats, while teammate Saige Roberts added 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Celtics return to action Dec. 16 when they host Wilberforce University for a 2 p.m. game at Donahue Pavilion.
