First and third quarter struggles sink Women’s Basketball at Penn State Behrend

The Lions (11-6, 9-1 AMCC) scored 65 points alone in the first and third quarters over the Celtics (9-7, 7-4 AMCC).
Emiley Hillgartner led Carlow with 16 points. Sydney Carr added a double-double 11 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and a steal in the effort.
Behrend leapt out to an 11-point lead midway through the first quarter before a jumper set off a 16-4 run that spanned the remainder of the quarter.
The Celtics fared better in the second quarter, but the Lions took a 24-point advantage into intermission thanks to the strong start in the first quarter.
Behrend outscored Carlow 32-14 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 42 heading into the fourth. The Celtics could not overcome the vast deficit as the Lions cruised to victory in the final quarter.
Behrend outrebounded the Celtics 57-42 and scored 21 points off 16 Carlow turnovers. The Lions outscored the Celtics 54-26 in the paint and 26-13 off the bench.
Rachel Majewski had a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions. Morgan Altavilla added 21 points and eight assists, and Alexis Furyes contributed 12 boards and four blocks on the night.
The Celtics host Hilbert (N.Y.) College for a 2 p.m. AMCC game Jan. 27.
