PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball defeated Pitt Greensburg 79-56 in AMCC action at Donahue Pavilion Wednesday.

The Celtics (11-8, 8-5 AMCC) made up for an early season loss to the Bobcats (9-11, 7-6 AMCC) with 25 second chance points on the night. Carlow battled for every rebound and played solid defense to secure the win.

Brianna Evans had a night with a career-high 14 points off the bench, adding nine rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block. Shaelyn Clark recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points, 10 boards and three assists, and Emma Aubrey added five assists and four steals.

The Celtics jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first quarter, but the advantage was short-lived as the Bobcats strung together a few points to gain a 12-10 lead. It was a physical battle in the quarter, with the teams tying the score several times before a jumper from Emiley Hillgartner and an Elena Butler layup gave Carlow a 20-16 lead heading into the second.

Pitt Greensburg kept it close through the second quarter, and the Celtics maintained a seven-point lead heading into halftime.

Carlow forced six turnovers and held the Bobcats to just nine points in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 14 heading into the fourth. The Celtics rode a 13-2 run from 2:21 remaining in the third until the seven-minute mark in the fourth quarter. Carlow pushed its lead to 26 points late in the final quarter to cement the victory.

Carlow outrebounded the Bobcats 59-44 and outscored Pitt Greensburg 38-28 in the paint. The Celtics scored 14 points off 14 Pitt Greensburg turnovers.

The Bobcats shot better from the foul line on the night, hitting 71.4 percent of their shots to score 20 points.

Melina Maietta led the Bobcats with 20 points, and two other athletes added double figures in the effort.

Carlow hosts Mount Aloysius College for a 2 p.m. AMCC game Feb. 3. The Celtics will celebrate six seniors as part of Senior Day prior to tip-off.
