Women’s Basketball begins 2024-25 season with win over Apprentice School

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball started the 2024-25 season with a 60-44 win over The Apprentice School at Donahue Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

Emari Stinnette (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown HS) scored a game- and career-high 20 points off the bench to lead the Celtics, shooting 7 for 8 from the field and 6 for 8 from the foul line on the day.

Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville HS/Grove City College) added a double-double 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, and Emiley Hillgartner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) contributed 10 points. Sydney Carr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) dished out five assists.

The Celtics held the Builders to just five points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach for Apprentice in the second half.

Emma Aubrey (Bristol, Tenn./Sullivan East HS) hit Carlow's first bucket of the season, a trey 42 seconds in to put the Celtics on the board, 3-0. Carlow held Apprentice scoreless through the first four minutes of action before the Builders landed a jumper.

An Apprentice jump shot midway through the second quarter saw the Builders trailing by three, but back-to-back baskets by Stinnette put Carlow up, 30-23. The Celtics took a 35-26 lead into halftime.

Carlow outscored Apprentice 13-5 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 17 points heading into the fourth. The Builders held a narrow 13-12 scoring margin over the Celtics in the fourth quarter but could not counter the third quarter deficit.

Nyla Jackson led the Builders with 16 points and Carlee Baidy pulled down 13 rebounds in the effort.

The Celtics travel to Wooster for the Nan Nichols Classic Nov. 8 and 9.
