Women’s Basketball picks up win over Wooster at Nan Nichols Classic

The Celtics staved off a fourth quarter comeback by the Fighting Scots to secure the win.
Sydney Carr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) led Carlow with a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. Emiley Hillgartner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) and Shaelyn Clark (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong HS) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Carlow jumped out to an 11-2 advantage to start the game before Wooster went on an 8-0 run over the course of three minutes to trail, 11-10. The Celtics outscored the Fighting Scots, 6-1, to end the first quarter ahead, 17-11.
Carlow outscored Wooster, 13-10, in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead into halftime. The Celtics pushed their lead to 15 midway through the third quarter, ahead 49-37 heading into the fourth.
Wooster outscored Carlow, 10-5, to start the fourth quarter, and a three-pointer from Ace Sturdivant cut the Celtics' lead to four with under four minutes remaining. The score was deadlocked at 54-50 before Emma Aubrey (Bristol, Tenn./Sullivan East HS) sank a trey to lift Carlow to a seven-point lead with just under a minute left. The Fighting Scots trailed by three points, but foul shots kept the game out of reach as the Celtics went 7 for 8 at the line to end the game.
Sturdivant led the Fighting Scots with a game-high 20 points, and Mackenzie Riccitelli recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Celtics scored 14 points off 16 Wooster turnovers and shot 73.7 percent (14 for 19) from the foul line compared to the Fighting Scots' 40 percent (6 for 15).
Carlow faces Fredonia State University for a 2 p.m. match Saturday to conclude the Nan Nichols Classic.
