Women’s Basketball struggles against undefeated Carnegie Mellon

Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville HS/Grove City College) led the Celtics with 13 points and nine rebounds and Shaelyn Clark (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong HS) added 12 points and dished out three assists.
The cold-shooting Celtics (2-4) scored just two points in the first quarter and struggled to recover from the 20-point deficit the remainder of the game. Although Carlow shot 78.6 percent (11 for 14) from the charity stripe on the night, the Celtics landed just 26.2 percent (16 for 61) of shots from the floor. The 7-0 Tartans shot 51.4 percent (36 for 70) from the field, outscoring Carlow 53-29 in the second half alone.
Carnegie Mellon outrebounded the Celtics 48-35 and scored 25 points off 20 costly Carlow turnovers. The Tartans outscored Carlow 50-8 off the bench.
Ava Arias scored a game-high 17 points and Nicole Timko added 13 points off the bench. Catherine Or pulled down 10 boards and tallied seven assists.
The Celtics return to action after holiday break with the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest of the season at Penn State Behrend Dec. 4.
