Women’s Soccer struggles to score in loss to La Roche

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a hard-fought, 1-0, contest to La Roche University in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action at Highmark Stadium Tuesday night.

Carlow's defense was solid all night, and goalkeeper Kylee Pry posted another standout performance with 12 saves in the complete game effort, but the Celtics (0-6-3, 0-3-1 AMCC) were unable to generate enough opportunities to score.

One of Carlow's best chances came before halftime in the 43rd minute, when a shot by Harley Vincler just outside the 18 ricocheted off the crossbar.

The Red Hawks (6-5-2, 4-1-1 AMCC) out-shot the Celtics, 13-5, on goal, and the teams faced a scoreless draw at halftime.

La Roche's Finnleigh Gould scored the eventual game-winner in the 50th minute.

Gould had her defender one-on-one and hit a shot at a sharp angle that skimmed just over the tips of Pry's outstretched gloves and into the net.

La Roche held a 6-1 corner kick advantage and out-shot the Celtics, 16-13.

Carlow heads down interstate 79 for a 6:30 p.m. match against Washington & Jefferson College tomorrow.
