Women’s Soccer falls to Penn State Altoona on the road

ALTOONA, Pa. --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a 3-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest at Penn State Altoona Wednesday.

The Lions (3-9-2, 3-3 AMCC) started off hot with several shots within the first 10 minutes of the match.

It didn't take long for Altoona to find the back of the net, scoring two quick goals just one minute apart at 14'.

Maddie Lyon tallied two shots, and a shot from Altoona ricocheted off the crossbar in the 19th minute, but neither team would score the remainder of the first half.

The Lions held Carlow (2-8-3, 2-4-1 AMCC) scoreless until the 63rd minute, when Avery Dudek found Arley Wilson for her third goal of the season to cut Altoona's lead to one.

The Lions put the game out of reach with their third and final goal at 72'.

Altoona out-shot the Celtics, 25-13 (11-6 on goal), and held a 7-4 corner kick advantage.

Lyndsey Szekely got the start in net for the Celtics, stopping five shots in the first half, and Rebecca Crawford stopped three shots in the final 45 minutes of action.

Altoona's Mallorie Smith scored two goals, while Camryn Kurilla tallied two assists. Goalkeeper Nicole Schwartz made five stops in the complete game effort.

Carlow hosts Penn State Behrend for a 1 p.m. AMCC match at AHN Montour Oct. 21.
