Women’s Soccer falls to No. 1 seed Bryant & Stratton Syracuse in USCAA semifinal match

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. --- Carlow University women's soccer lost, 4-0, to Bryant & Stratton College Syracuse in the USCAA Championship semifinal game at AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex Friday.

In addition to facing the No. 1 seed Bobcats (7-2-1), the Celtics (2-11-3) also battled a cold downpour the entire match.

Carlow saw its best opportunity to score in the 63rd minute when a foul in the box led to a penalty kick, but Syracuse goalkeeper Mireia Ferrero Rosino maintained her clean sheet by coming up with the save.

The Bobcats struck early with a goal in the eighth minute from Masego Nfandiso, and went ahead, 2-0, with another at 14'.

The Celtics held Syracuse scoreless for the next 34 minutes before a goal at 48' put the Bobcats up 3-0.

Nfandiso scored Syracuse's final goal in the 87th minute to secure the win.

Carlow garnered the lone corner kick of the match, with the Bobcats narrowly outshooting the Celtics 18-10 (9-6 on goal). Senior Harley Vincler tallied three of Carlow's six shots on goal, while Hannah Biros, Chloe Keller and Arley Wilson recorded the others.

Lyndsey Szekely played the full 90 minutes in net with five saves.

The Celtics face No. 3 seed University of Maine Fort Kent for the USCAA Championship consolation game today at 12:45 p.m.
