Women’s Soccer finishes fourth in the nation after 2OT heartbreaker in USCAA Championship consolation game

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. --- Carlow University women's soccer scored a comeback to force overtime in the USCAA Championship consolation game but fell 3-2 to the University of Maine Fort Kent in the final minutes of the second overtime Saturday.

The Celtics (2-12-3) trailed the Bengals (9-3-1) by just one goal at halftime, but Maine Fort Kent went ahead, 2-0, with another in the 53^rd minute.

Undeterred, the Celtics continued to battle and scored back-to-back goals in the 63^rd minute.

Arley Wilson cut the Bengals' lead to one with an unassisted shot at 62:08, and Tianna Torles scored the equalizer less than a minute later at 62:59 with an unassisted goal of her own to put the Celtics back in the match.

Carlow held the Bengals scoreless the remainder of regulation to force the first overtime.

The Celtics kept Maine Fort Kent from scoring in the first overtime despite a close shot from the Bengals at 98' that ricocheted off the post and rolled parallel to the goal line.

It looked as though the game would head into a shootout as time slowly dwindled off the clock in the second overtime period, but Maine Fort Kent's Petagay Dixon – who already tallied a goal and an assist for the Bengals in regulation – scored the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the period.

Maine Fort Kent's defense did not allow the Celtics a single shot during the two overtime periods.

Lyndsey Szekely got the start in goal for the Celtics, stopping three shots in the first half.

Senior Rebecca Crawford played the remainder of the game in net, making seven stops in 65 minutes of work.

Torles recorded two of Carlow's four shots on goal as the Bengals outshot the Celtics, 29-9 (13-4 on goal).
