PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer tied Penn State Mont Alto, 0-0, in its home opener at Highmark Stadium Wednesday night.
The Celtics outshot the Lions 24-1 and put 16 shots on goal but could not get any of them to fall. Despite numerous attempts, Mont Alto's Sophie Bowersox managed to stand strong in net.
Carlow did not allow the Lions (0-2-1) a single corner kick the entire 90 minutes of action, tallying nine of its own in the match.
Sophomore Arley Wilson (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area HS) put five shots on target, with Carlow's best chance in the 33rd minute. A strong shot ricocheted off the crossbar and landed in front of the goal line, giving Mont Alto's goalkeeper enough time to readjust and snag the ball before it could bounce back.
Carlow's defense did not allow goalkeeper Lyndsey Szekely (North Huntington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) an opportunity to make a save in the complete game effort.
The Celtics return to action with a noon game at St. Vincent College Sept. 7.
