Women’s Soccer secures first win of the season over Penn State New Kensington

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer scored its first win of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Penn State New Kensington at Highmark Stadium Tuesday evening.

Jenna McGuinness (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin HS/Seton Hill University) scored a brace after goals at 17' and 64' to lead Carlow's offense that outshot the Lions (0-4), 37-9.

Arley Wilson (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area HS) got the Celtics (1-5-1) started with a goal eight minutes into the match. McGuiness followed with her first goal on an assist from Kaitlyn Reap (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area HS), and Anna Gribik (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area HS) found Amara Battista (South Park, Pa./South Park HS/CCAC) in the 35th minute to give Carlow a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Carlow scored its next three goals within the span of four minutes.

Harley Vincler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) got the second half started with a far free kick that sailed over the goalkeeper's head to notch Carlow's fourth goal at 60'. Less than two minutes later, Maddie Lyon (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills HS) sent a shot in that ricocheted off the post and skittered into the net to put the Celtics up, 5-0.

McGuinness tallied Carlow's final goal of the evening from over 18 yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper's head.

Lyndsey Szekely (North Huntington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) got the start in net and earned the win. Szekely and Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) split time in goal, making three stops apiece.

Goalkeeper Air Wales made 16 saves, and Samara Ayodele hit five of New Kensington's seven shots on goal.

The Celtics host Hilbert College for a 12 p.m. match to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action at Highmark Stadium Saturday.
