Women’s Soccer draws No. 5 seed in USCAA Championship Tournament

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer was selected as the No. 5 seed in the 2024 USCAA Championship Tournament, the association announced Nov. 6.
It is Carlow's fourth trip to nationals in recent history and second in a row, as the Celtics competed in the tournament last season and back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015.
The Celtics face No. 1-ranked Shaw (N.C.) University at 6:15 p.m. for USCAA Championship pool play at AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex in Coraopolis, Pa. November 15.
Carlow ended the regular season 3-12-1 overall. Junior forward Jenna McGuinness (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin HS/Seton Hill University) ranks fifth in the USCAA with 16 points and is tied for fifth with seven goals on the season.
Graduate goalkeeper Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) ranks fifth in the USCAA with 75 saves on the season, and junior goalkeeper Lyndsey Szekely (North Huntington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) ranks seventh with a .700 save percentage and eighth with 56 saves on the year.
The Celtics are averaging 11.3 shots and 1.25 goals per game this season with a 4.19 goals against average.
The Shaw Bears secured the No. 1 seed in the tournament, going 7-6-1 on the season with an average 1.91 goals and 13.3 shots per game. The Bears are allowing 1.91 goals per game.
Shaw is led by Giovanna Coghetto with seven goals and one assist, and four other players contributed multiple goals on the year. Lindsay Poplin leads the team in net with 17 saves on the season.
