CORAOPOLIS, Pa. --- The 2024 season ended for Carlow University women's soccer with a 9-0 loss to Florida National University at the USCAA Championship tournament Saturday afternoon.
The No. 4-ranked Conquistadors (4-6-2) blanked the No. 5-ranked Celtics (3-14-1) in a pool play match at AHN Montour. Once again injuries and illness took a toll on Carlow, as the team was outmatched with just three substitutes on the bench.
Amara Battista (South Park, Pa./South Park HS/CCAC) and Jenna McGuinness (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin HS/Seton Hill University) each put two shots on goal for the Celtics, who were outshot 22-8 in the match. Carlow recorded two corner kicks in the first half but were unable to capitalize on the advantage.
Lyndsey Szekely (North Huntington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) suffered the loss in net after making five saves in the first half. Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) stopped two shots in the second half.
Florida National scored two unassisted goals within the first six minutes of action, tacking on two more at 13' and 17' before adding another in the 29th minute. The Conquistadors tallied their final goal of the half in the 41st minute to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
