Tennis swept in inaugural match of 2024 season

The Golden Tornadoes defeated the Celtics, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2 to earn one point for the doubles matches under the newly proposed NCAA format.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) instituted a mandatory, seven-point scoring pilot for all of Division III tennis for the 2024-25 season. This covers all non-conference dual match play for the fall and spring.
Sophomore Sofia Hernandez (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) took five games in two sets at the No. 4 singles position and won three games in the No. 2 doubles spot alongside senior Jensen Stolitza (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong HS).
Newcomer Lyric Knepshield (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk HS) returned to her former home court to win five games in the No. 5 singles spot, while Caitlin McCarthy (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton HS) won three games in the No. 2 spot.
The Celtics open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday, Aug. 31 with a 1 p.m. match at Penn State Altoona.
