Women’s Tennis opens AMCC action with loss at Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. --- Carlow University women's tennis lost a 6-1 contest to Penn State Altoona in conference action indoors at Gorilla House Gym Saturday.

The match moved indoors due to the threat of inclement weather throughout the day.

The No. 1 doubles team of Julia Piatt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks HS) and Caitlin McCarthy (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton HS) won their match, 7-6, but the Lions defeated Carlow, 6-2, in the remaining doubles matches to secure the point.

Piatt swept the No. 1 singles spot, 6-4 and 6-3, while McCarthy fell in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 3-10) in the No. 2 singles position. The Lions secured the victory with five wins in singles play.

Carlow returns to action with a 6:30 p.m. match against St. Vincent College Sept. 5 at Schenley Oval Sportsplex.
