Women’s Track & Field opens indoor season with second place finish

MARIETTA, Ohio --- Carlow University women's track & field opened the 2024-25 indoor season with a second place finish at the Marietta College First Glimpse meet Saturday.

The team placed second only behind NCAA DII Concord University with a score of 98 on the day. The Celtics scored in the top 10 in every event in which they competed.

Molly Wagner (Pleasant Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson HS) broke the school record in the 55-meter dash with a second place finish of 7.61. The previous school record, set by Trista Miller (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMilan HS) on Feb. 9, 2024, was 7.84. Miller placed fifth in the event with a time of 7.96.

Wagner landed a first place finish in the 200 with a time of 27.62, and both Wagner and Miller were part of the 4x200 relay team that also placed first on the day. Ella Cloak (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity HS) and Sydney Taylor (Castle Shannon, Pa./Keystone Oaks HS) were the other two legs of the first place relay team.

Emma Sovich (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area HS) set the school record in weight throw as it is the first time someone competed in the event in school history. Her throw of 7.29 meters landed her a third place finish.

The Celtics return to action following the holiday break with a Jan. 25 meet at Muskingum University.
