Déjà vu for Women’s Volleyball in matchup against Salem

SALEM, W.Va. --- Carlow University women's volleyball lost, 3-2, to Salem University on the road Wednesday.

It was a repeat of the same game Carlow (7-8) played against the Tigers (3-10) Sept. 20.

On Sept. 20, the Celtics took the first and third sets in the 3-2 loss to Salem; tonight, Carlow won the third and fourth sets of the match.

Rebecca Hess recorded a double-double, game-high 20 kills and 16 digs in the effort. She tallied five of Carlow's six service aces on the night.

Alison Humberston added 17 kills, and Javonna Perkins had 12 kills and two blocks.

Meghan Alexander put up 48 assists, while three other Celtics counted double-digit digs on the night.

Salem started strong with an 11-5 lead in the first set en route to a 25-20 victory.

Both teams tied the game several times in the second set, but the Celtics gained a marginal lead and looked as though they were about to put the game away before the Tigers rallied at the end to tie the score, 24-all.

The teams battled it out, forcing a win-by-two situation, but Salem came out on top after a service error and an attacking error landed in their favor, 31-29.

Trailing by two games, the Celtics made a comeback in the third.

Carlow jumped out to a big 14-4 lead to win the third set, 25-15.

The Celtis tied the fourth set, 7-7, and traded leads with the Tigers throughout the set.

A kill by Megan Cooper and a service ace from Hess ended the fourth set, 25-21, in favor of the Celtics, forcing a fifth.

The Celtics started with a lead, but two kills and several errors tied it, 5-all.

Both teams tied the score a handful of times, but with the game on the line, the Tigers came through with a kill and a service ace to end the set, 15-13, and win the match.

Nakyia Middleton led the Tigers with 17 kills, and the team recorded 11 service aces in the game.

Carlow travels to Alfred State College for an 11 a.m. AMCC matchup Oct. 7.
