Three Women’s Volleyball athletes named to AMCC All-Conference teams

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. --- Three Carlow University women's volleyball athletes were named to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday.

Sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Hess earned second team all-conference honors, while senior setter Meghan Alexander and junior outside hitter Alison Humberston earned third team honors.

Hess ended the season leading the Celtics and ranked third in the AMCC with 351 kills. She ranked fourth in the conference with an average 3.22 kills per set. Hess was first on the team with 299 digs, and second with 52 service aces on the year. She earned USCAA Player of the Week honors once this season and was also named a first team USCAA All-American.

Alexander, who recorded her 1,000th career assist early in the season, led the team with 791 total assists and was ranked third in the AMCC with an average 7.26 assists per set. She was a three-time USCAA Player of the Week honoree and earned USCAA All-American first team honors.

Humberston was second on the team with 293 total kills and ranked fifth in the conference with an average 3.15 kills per set. She was a USCAA Player of the Week and earned Carlow's only AMCC Player of the Week nod this season.

Carlow finished its season with a 13-16 record and ranked fourth in the nation at the USCAA Championship tournament.

Mount Aloysius College sophomore outside hitter Molly Richards was tabbed as the 2023 AMCC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year. Richards finished the regular season first in the AMCC in overall in kills (417) and kills per set (4.01). She recorded 488 digs overall, including 192 in conference play, ranking second in the AMCC with 5.49 digs per set against AMCC teams. Richards was one of the most significant contributors on both offense and defense in the conference throughout the season.

Penn State Altoona outside hitter Lia Simasnki was named the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. Simanski had an outstanding freshman season for the Lions, ranking in the top-20 in the AMCC in many statistical categories. She finished the regular season fourth in the conference in attacks (909), seventh in kills per set (2.81), eighth in kills (242), ninth in points (269) and points per set (3.1), 12th in digs (283) and 13th in digs per set (3.29).

Penn State Altoona head coach Jamie McGreal earned Coach of the Year honors in her first year at the helm. After a 4-3 finish a season ago, McGreal led the Lions to an 8-1 record this season and the No. 1 seed in the AMCC Championship Tournament. The Lions went on to win their first conference title since 2011.
