Women’s Volleyball sweeps Penn State Beaver in USCAA road game

The Celtics landed 11 aces in the game, led by Emily Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./River Valley HS) and Paige Keller (Liberty Borough, Pa./South Allegheny HS) with three apiece.
Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added 13 kills and nine digs as Carlow won, 25-14, 25-10 and 25-23.
The Celtics scored seven unanswered points to take a 10-4 lead in the first set, keeping the Lions (0-4) at arm's length to win the set.
Carlow jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set and made quick work of Penn State Beaver with a .667 hitting percentage in the 25-10 victory.
The Lions battled to the very end in the third set.
The Celtics led, 9-4, before Penn State Beaver scored five in a row to put them within one point of tying the game. Carlow kept its distance, but a four-point run gave the Lions a marginal advantage.
Tied 15-all, the teams traded leads until the end. A Carlow service error tied the game at 23-23, but Rebecca Hess and Alison Humberston (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands HS) both got a hold of kills to end the game, 25-23, in favor of the Celtics.
Carlow hit .342 as a team on the night.
Sofia Perez led the Lions with eight kills, and Courtney Simpkins added nine digs in the effort.
The Celtics return to action with their 7 p.m. home opener against Franciscan University Sept. 10.
