Women’s Volleyball snaps losing streak with sweep of Shenango
SHARON, Pa. --- Carlow University women’s volleyball snapped a four-game drought with a 3-0 sweep of Penn State Shenango on the road Monday.

The Celtics (5-6) defeated the Lions 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18.
It was a team effort, as three different Celtics recorded seven kills apiece. Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and Giovanna Jones (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe HS) added 10 digs each, while Javonna Perkins (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) contributed four blocks. Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) and Emily Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./River Valley HS) combined for 21 assists.
The Celtics tallied 11 service aces on the night.
The Lions (4-8) led through the beginning of the first set before a kill from Alison Humberston (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands HS) set off an 8-0 run by the Celtics that put them ahead, 15-8.
Shenango chipped away little by little but could not recover from the run.
The teams traded leads through the second set until a Shenango service error handed the ball back to Carlow.
The Celtics went on a 9-2 run to lead, 18-9. Although the Lions outscored Carlow 6-2 at the end of the set, the Celtics ended the game 25-20 with a kill from Rebecca Hess.
Carlow jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the third set and led the entire game to win the set and the match, 25-18.
Sydney Ward struck nine kills for the Lions, and Cyra Cross added 16 digs in the effort.
The Celtics travel to Grove City College for a 7 p.m. match tomorrow.
