Women’s Volleyball falls to Hilbert in conference road match

The Celtics (6-14, 0-4 AMCC) fell, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12.
In an otherwise evenly matched game, it came down to the team that made fewer mistakes – and Hilbert (4-16, 2-3 AMCC) tallied 11 attacking errors to Carlow's 21 on the night.
Alison Humberston (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands HS) led the Celtics with eight kills. Claire Yezovich (Irwin, Pa./Woodland Hills HS) recorded 11 digs, and Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) set 13 assists. Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) landed three of Carlow's five service aces on the night.
The Celtics fell behind, 14-3, to start the first set. An attacking error allowed Carlow to score six unanswered points, prompting a timeout from the Hilbert bench.
Although the Celtics continued to battle, the Hawks outscored Carlow 8-3 to earn the 25-15 victory.
The Celtics fared better in the second set, tying the game twice early on. Trailing 13-8, another short, five-point Carlow run tied the game at 13-all, forcing a Hilbert timeout.
A kill from Humberston put Carlow ahead, 17-16, before a Hawks kill tied the game and set off a six-point run that included three service aces. The Celtics burned through both timeouts during the run, trailing 22-18.
Sufak landed two aces in a row to put the Celtics within two points of tying the score before a service error handed the ball back to the home team. A Hilbert ace gave the Hawks set point, and although Megan Cooper (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson HS) landed a kill in the next rally, Hilbert earned the 25-21 win with a kill from Emily Garnett.
The Hawks jumped out to a 10-2 advantage in the third set enroute to a decisive 25-12 victory to win the match.
Molly McKinnon led the Hawks with eight kills, while Jessee Jonathan and Natalie Ruhlmann combined for 26 digs. Hilbert landed 13 service aces in the match.
The Celtics host Penn State Behrend for a 1 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 26. Prior to the start of the game, the Celtics will recognize and honor senior Alison Humberston.
