Women’s Volleyball downed in final regular season match at Mount Aloysius

The Celtics (7-17,1-7 AMCC) narrowly lost the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-18, before taking the third set, 25-20. The Mounties (13-13,5-2 AMCC) won the fourth set, 25-18.
Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led Carlow with 23 digs and 11 kills on the night. Giovanna Jones (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe HS) added 11 digs, and Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) tallied 20 assists. Megan Cooper (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson HS) added five blocks in the effort.
Mount Aloysius hit .221 on the night and held the Celtics to single digit kills in every set except the third.
The Mounties held a marginal advantage to begin the first set before a kill from Jorja Sedlar (Brentwood, Pa./PA Leadership Charter School) tied the game at 7-all. Mount Aloysius errors allowed the Celtics to tie the game twice more, and a service ace by Jones put the Celtics in the lead, 14-13. A kill from Hess and a bad set by the Mounties saw Carlow ahead two until a Celtics error and a Mount Aloysius ace tied the game once again at 17-17. Two kills and a string of Carlow errors allowed the Mounties to gain a 22-18 lead, prompting a timeout from Head Coach Julie Gaul. A kill and an error found the Celtics trailing, 23-20, as the Mounties won the set, 25-20.
Ahead 9-8 in the second set, the Mounties strung together a brief 5-0 run to gain a 14-8 advantage over the Celtics. Mount Aloysius steadily pulled away to win the second set, 25-18.
The Celtics did not go down without a fight, jumping out to a lead in the third set before a Mounties kill tied the game at 6-all. Carlow outscored Mount Aloysius 9-4 to gain a 15-10 lead. The Mounties trailed by two several times until the end of the set, when two errors and a kill from Alison Humberston (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands HS) handed Carlow the 25-20 victory.
It was a back and forth game through the fourth set until the very end. Tied at 17-17, a Mount Aloysius kill prompted a Carlow timeout and ultimately set off a 7-1 run for the Mounties to end the fourth set, 25-18, and win the match.
Molly Richards led Mount Aloysius with a game-high 21 kills and 14 digs. Madison Barr had a game-high 28 digs, while Mackenzie Barr contributed 14 kills.
The Celtics look forward to competing at the USCAA Championship Tournament, hosted by Penn State Fayette Nov. 7-9.
