Women’s Volleyball draws No. 6 seed in USCAA Championship Tournament

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's volleyball was selected as the No. 6 seed in the 2024 USCAA Championship Tournament, the association announced Nov. 4.

It is Carlow's fourth trip in a row to nationals and the team's 10^th trip in the past 12 years. Last year, the Celtics were ranked third and finished fourth in the nation.

The Celtics face Shaw (N.C.) University at 7:30 p.m. for USCAA Championship pool play at Penn State Fayette Nov. 7, and Lyon (Ark.) College in a 12 p.m. pool play game Nov. 8.

Carlow ended the regular season 7-17 overall. Junior outside hitter Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) ranks first in the USCAA with 339 total digs and fourth with 261 kills on the season.

Graduate middle hitter Javonna Perkins (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) is ranked second in the USCAA with an average 0.76 blocks per set and 64 total blocks on the season, and senior outside hitter Alison Humberston (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands HS) ranks fifth in the league with 251 kills. Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) is fifth in the USCAA with 251 digs.

The Celtics are averaging 10.44 kills, 16.24 digs, 1.77 service aces and 1.50 blocks per set heading into the tournament.

The Shaw Bears are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, averaging 12.9 kills, 14.9 digs, 2.8 service aces and 1.9 blocks per set heading into pool play against the Celtics.

In their first ever USCAA appearance, the Bears are led by Talia Emmen who leads the team in kills with 195. Kamille Patrick is hitting .324 with 133 kills and 34 total blocks, and Kalia Morris leads the team with 244 digs this season. As a team, Shaw leads the association in kills per set, hitting percentage, assists per set and service aces.
