Schwirian, Cloak place second, third at La Roche

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women’s cross country runners Laci Schwirian and Ella Cloak finished second and third at a muddy La Roche University Invitational Friday evening.

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's cross country runners Laci Schwirian and Ella Cloak finished second and third at a muddy La Roche University Invitational Friday evening.

Schwirian, a sophomore from Elizabeth, Pa., was just under 20 seconds behind first-place finisher Rebecca Martin of Penn State DuBois with a time of 22:44.7.

Cloak crossed the 5k finish line at 23:51.4 to earn third place for the Celtics.

Claire Stevens placed 11th of 18 runners with a time of 26:58.3.

Martin's time of 22:25.3 earned her the top spot, but none of the schools in attendance fielded enough runners to score as a team.

It was the final tune-up for the Celtics before the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship at Delaware Park in Buffalo, N.Y. Oct. 28.
