Strong second half not enough to push Men’s Soccer past Penn State Scranton

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer outshot Penn State Scranton 16-14, but two early goals were enough to lift the Lions to a 2-0 victory at Cupples Stadium Saturday night.

Scranton (2-3-1) scored back-to-back goals at 33' and 35' and held the Celtics (2-4) at bay for the remainder of the match.

A flurry of yellow cards awarded Carlow several decent looks in the second half.

Scranton goalkeeper Andrew Haser stopped a nice shot by Nico Bel (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Florida SouthWestern State College) at 76', and back-to-back headers from Konner Sayre (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area Senior HS) and Eric Fowler (Torrington, Conn./Wamogo Regional HS/Roger Williams University) just missed the mark. A shot on goal by Hunter Brady (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York HS) capped Carlow's barrage of shots within the span of three minutes.

Walt Kada (Cameroon, Africa/Taylor Allderdice HS) missed one high, while Brady and Connor Smith (Washington, Pa./Trinity HS) each put one on target late in the game. Brady and Fowler ended the night with three and two shots on goal, respectively.

Alex Remington (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) suffered the loss after making four saves in the complete game effort. Remington and the Carlow defense prevented the Lions from scoring for over 55 minutes.

The Celtics return to action with a 2 p.m. game against Penn State New Kensington Sept. 24.
