Men’s Soccer snaps losing streak with shutout of Penn State Hazleton
PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men’s soccer snapped an eight game losing streak with a 7-0 shutout over Penn State Hazleton in the Celtics’ final home game of the season at Highmark Stadium Sunday.

The Celtics (3-10) amassed a school record of 53 shots on the day, besting the previous record by 16 (37 shots against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Sept. 2, 2021).
Gavin Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills HS) and Konner Sayre (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area Senior HS) scored two goals apiece for Carlow, with Sayre notching an assist on the day.
Nico Bel (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Florida SouthWestern State College) added two assists, and six other Celtics contributed points in the match.
Sayre got things started early for the Celtics with a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The Lions (0-11) held Carlow scoreless for 32 minutes until Sayre found Marcus Wilson (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central School) for a header to put Carlow ahead, 2-0.
The Celtics' final goal of the first half landed with just three seconds remaining on the clock. Bel sent a free kick into the box and found his mark with Moore to give Carlow a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Moore tallied his second goal of the match in the 53rd minute, set up nicely by Hunter Brady (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York HS) with the assist.
Carlow scored two goals in quick succession 18 minutes later. Connor Smith (Washington, Pa./Trinity HS) sent a ball across to the opposite side of the net to find Sayre for his second goal of the game.
Ikechukwu Aguwa (Nigeria, Africa/Pitt-Greensburg) found Logan Alexander (Manchester Twp., N.J./Manchester Township HS) inside the 18 to assist on Alexander's first career goal that deflected off a defender and into the net at 74'.
The Celtics capitalized on another deflection for their final goal of the match at 81'. Sangay Gurung (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood HS) notched his first career goal after a blocked shot by Bel landed at his feet, affording him an open shot.
Alex Remington (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) earned the win, and Zac Kolich (Enon Valley, Pa./Blackhawk HS/Pittsburgh Technical College) took over in the second half to help record the clean sheet for the Celtics without having to face a single shot on goal.
Carlow outshot Hazleton 53-5 and held a 13-1 corner kick advantage. Lions goalkeeper Mac Kline made 14 saves in the complete game effort.
The Celtics travel to Penn State Altoona for a 4 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 23.
